Matthew Wade Retires from International Cricket: Australian wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Wade officially announced his retirement from international cricket on Tuesday, marking the end of a 13-year career across all three formats. “I knew my international career was probably over after the last T20 World Cup,” Wade shared in a statement from Cricket Australia. “Coaching has been on my radar for some time, and I’m grateful for the exciting opportunities that have come my way.”
Wade’s finest moment for Australia came during the 2021 T20 World Cup in Dubai. His unbeaten 41 in the semi-final against Pakistan was instrumental in taking Australia to their maiden T20 title. Wade famously hit three consecutive sixes off Shaheen Shah Afridi in the final overs to secure a dramatic win. Australia went on to defeat New Zealand comfortably in the final, winning by eight wickets.

Though Wade’s Test career was limited due to stiff competition from Brad Haddin and Tim Paine, he made a memorable comeback during the 2019 Ashes. In that series, which ended in a 2-2 draw, Wade scored two of his four Test centuries, finishing with 1,613 Test runs at an average just under 30.
“Matthew was a much-loved teammate across all formats,” said Ben Oliver from Cricket Australia. “His resilience and adaptability were hallmarks of his career, and he should be proud of the impact he made at the international level.”
According to cricket.com.au, Wade, now 36, will begin his coaching journey as Australia’s wicket keeping and fielding coach for the upcoming T20 series against Pakistan.
