Champions Trophy 2025: South Africa Thrash England By Seven Wickets To Book Their Spot In The Semifinals

South Africa delivered a commanding performance against England, securing a decisive seven-wicket victory and a coveted spot in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semifinals.

In a crucial Group B clash at Karachi's National Stadium, England's decision to bat first proved disastrous. South Africa's bowlers ripped through the English batting lineup, with Phil Salt's early dismissal setting the tone for a collapse.

England struggled to build partnerships, losing wickets at regular intervals. Ben Duckett's brief resistance was followed by a series of dismissals, including captain Jos Buttler's, who later announced his white-ball captaincy resignation. The English innings crumbled, culminating in a meager total of 179 all out in 39 overs.

South Africa's chase began shakily, with Tristan Stubbs and Ryan Rickelton falling early to Jofra Archer. However, Rassie van der Dussen and Heinrich Klaasen forged a formidable partnership, effectively sealing England's fate. Their 20-over, 130-run stand dismantled any hopes of an English comeback.

Klaasen's dismissal for 64 left South Africa just six runs shy of victory, which David Miller promptly secured with a stylish six. The Proteas chased down the target in a mere 29.1 overs, demonstrating their dominance.

This emphatic win propelled South Africa to the top of Group B, with Australia securing the second spot. South Africa will now face the runner-up of the India vs. New Zealand Group A match in the semifinals. England's elimination also dashed Afghanistan's hopes of qualifying.
